Though the holiday season is coming to a close, the city is still packed with events and activities to continue the winter celebration. If you’re looking for a seasonal adventure, perfect your triple axel (or just try to stay upright) at one of the city’s many ice rinks open for public skating. If you have a pair of skates at the bottom of your closet, the whole adventure may even be free. Here are a few rinks to check out, in addition to the usual spots (i.e. Rockefeller Center and Central Park)…
Bryant Park
40th to 42nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues
New York, NY
Enjoy free admission, late hours, and a rinkside restaurant serving up snacks and warm drinks. Tip: Bring your own lock if you have one, otherwise it’s $10 to secure your stuff. $20 skate rental
Abe Stark Rink
1902 West 19th Street
Brooklyn, NY
Once a saltwater swimming pool, this seaside rink on Coney Island is a favorite for weekend skating (limited schedule, check before you go!). $10 admission, $5 skate rental
Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers
61 Chelsea Piers (West 21st Street and the West Side Highway)
New York, NY
Open year-round, the massive west-side sports complex offers two NHL-sized rinks. As an added draw, you’ll enjoy gorgeous Hudson River views as you make your way around the ice. $12 admission, $6 skate rental

Brooklyn, NY
Skate indoors or outdoors, or try curling and broomball for a different rink activity. End the wintery day with a stroll through the Prospect Park foliage. $7.25 admission on weekdays, $10 admission on weekends and holidays, $7 skate rental
